Nigeria, the main oil, gas and LNG producer in sub-Saharan Africa, has been chosen to host the newly formed Africa Energy Bank (AEB) to boost investment in the Continent’s under-financed projects.
UK major Shell is said to be finalizing the acquisition of liquefied natural gas assets of Pavilion Energy, the natural gas company set up by Singapore’s wealth fund Temasek, to give the Asian island state energy security.
June 11 (LNGJ) - Enagás, the Spanish natural gas grid and LNG terminals operator, recorded a drop of 18.6 percent in May natural gas imports compared with May 2023 with Russian and Nigerian LNG imports declining. Data from Enagás showed that Spain imported the equivalent of 28,264 gigawatt hours in May, the equivalent of 2.89 billion cubic metres of natural gas. This included regasified LNG as well as pipeline gas from Algeria and France, compared with 34,709 GWh, or 3.55 Bcm of gas, in the same month last year.
Russia was the largest LNG supplier to Spain with 6,416 GWh, or 511,450 tonnes of LNG, down from 9,663 GWh in May 2023. The US was the second-largest LNG supplier with 3,893 GWh followed by Nigeria with 2,932 GWh, down from 6,813 GWh in 2023. Qatar supplied 1,742 GWh of the LNG total and Algeria delivered 1,477 GWh of LNG and 8,791 GWh of pipeline gas.
Naturgy Energy, the power company with LNG operations from Puerto Rico to Europe and pipeline gas networks from Algeria to South America, reported a more than 20 percent rise in annual net profits.
Feb 7 (LNGJ) - UK company Centrica Plc and Spanish oil and gas major Repsol have signed an agreement for Centrica to purchase 1 million tonnes of LNG shipments between 2025 and 2027. Centrica said that all of these cargoes were expected to be delivered to the UK Grain LNG import terminal in Kent. “The deal marks an additional move by Centrica to build further resilience in the UK’s energy security,” said Centrica Energy, the UK company’s trading unit.
“It follows a 15-year, $8Bln LNG deal with Delfin Midstream in July 2023, a three-year (pipelines) supply agreement with Equinor through to 2024 and the reopening and expansion of the UK’s Rough gas storage facility,” said Centrica. Cassim Mangerah, the managing director of Centrica Energy, said he was delighted to have closed this deal. “One of the key pillars of our successful and growing LNG business is our partnership approach. Our new deal with Repsol will complement the Atlantic leg of our diversified and flexible portfolio,” stated Mangerah.

Enagás, the Spanish gas grid and LNG terminals operator, has acquired the Reganosa gas pipeline network in Northern Spain while Reganosa is becoming a 25 percent shareholder in the El Musel regasification and import terminal on the Bay of Biscay previously 100-percent owned by Enagás.
