Novatek, the owner and developer of two Russian Arctic region LNG export plants, has signed an accord to help Vietnam develop a second LNG import terminal and adjacent gas-fired power station in Ninh Thuan province south of Cam Ranh Bay.

The Italian Nidec Industrial Solutions group has signed a contract with Siemens Gas and Power of Germany whereby the Italians will supply variable frequency drive systems and motors for the Arctic LNG II project planned in northern Siberia by Russian natural gas company Novatek and its partners.

French energy major Total has signed agreements with Russian natural gas company Novatek, operator of the Yamal LNG export plant, for the acquisition of a direct 10 percent stake in the Arctic LNG II joint venture proposed by Novatek for Russia’s Gydan Peninsula.

Novatek, the Russian natural gas company whose Yamal LNG plant started operations just over a year ago, is making progress with its second venture planned for the Gydan Peninsula in the Arctic region with the awarding of another equipment contract.

Myanmar is expected to begin importing liquefied natural gas by 2020 using floating storage and regasification units to supply three gas-fired power plants already under development.

Commonwealth LNG, a US export project in Louisiana, has initiated its pre-filing environmental review process with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a liquefaction plant in Louisiana with 9 million tonnes per annum of capacity.

Norwegian company Global LNG Services (GLS), a developer of floating liquefaction hulls, said it planned to work with Siemens of Germany and Sembcorp Marine of Singapore on projects, including one on the US Gulf Coast.

Dresser-Rand, part of the German Siemens Group, said production was successfully ramped up at a small-scale natural gas liquefaction facility supplied to a US operator making LNG for fuel in the Marcellus Shale region of Pennsylvania.
