March 6 (LNGJ) - TotalEnergies and partner QatarEnergy have signed an agreement to acquire participating interests in Block 3B/4B, in what is known as the Orange Basin offshore South Africa, from Africa Oil South Africa, Ricocure and Azinam, a subsidiary of Eco Atlantic Oil and Gas. Under the deal, TotalEnergies will hold a 33 percent participating interest in Block 3B/4B and assume operatorship while QatarEnergy will hold a 24 percent interest.
Located 200 kilometres off the western coast of South Africa, Block 3B/4B covers an area of 17,581 square kilometres and is adjacent to the Block 3B/4B licence already operated by TotalEnergies (50 percent) alongside QatarEnergy (30 percent) and South African firm Sezigyn (20 percent). “Following the Venus success in Namibia, TotalEnergies is continuing to progress its exploration effort in the Orange Basin, by entering this promising exploration licence in South Africa,” said Kevin McLachlan, Senior Vice-President for Exploration at TotalEnergies.
