The Russian port and enclave of Kaliningrad is now self-sufficient in LNG after a delivery via the floating storage and regasification unit, the “Marshal Vasilevskiy”, to the small area separated from Russia and bordering Lithuania and Poland.

July 5 (LNGJ) - Gazprom Chairman Alexey Miller and Wang Yilin, Chairman of China National Petroleum Corp., signed in a supplementary sales and purchase agreement for Russian natural gas to be supplied via the eastern route, known as the Power of Siberia gas pipeline scheduled to start in December 2019. “The signing of this document is a crucial step in the implementation of the project, a step achieved by Gazprom and CNPC thanks to clear and concerted action on both sides of the border,” said Miller. “Our work is strictly on schedule, even ahead of schedule regarding Power of Siberia,” he added.

Five European energy companies, including prominent LNG industry participants, have signed an agreement to provide 50 percent of the financing for the Russian-led $10 billion Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline project to compete with larger volumes of US LNG scheduled to arrive in the next few years.

Russia should be well placed to take advantage of the world’s rising needs for natural gas, including from its Yamal LNG project in Siberia, but the problems facing the country’s gas industry are as big as the size of its resources, the International Energy Agency said its 2016 World Energy Outlook.
