The European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), whose responsibilities include assessing the prices of LNG cargoes, said that more LNG imports were needed to help energy security amid raised concerns about power-grid resilience in the 27-nation group and about subsidies making its citizens lax on saving electricity.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has held bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin covering a proposed natural gas hub and other energy projects for both countries flowing through Turkey.

Russian pipeline natural gas and LNG supplier Gazprom said overdue debt of Russian consumers for natural gas supplies over the past year amounted to 172.5 billion Russian roubles ($2.27Bln) with the biggest debts being in Moscow.

Gazprom said the Svobodny thermal power plant has started up to serve the Amur Gas Processing Plant, one of the world’s largest and part of the “Power of Siberia” project comprising pipeline gas for China and LNG for trucks transporting liquid helium as a new Russian Far East export.

Gazprom of Russia, the world’s largest natural gas company and a main pipeline supplier to Western and Central Europe, is facing a phenomenon dating from the collapse of the Soviet Union 28 years ago and economic upheavals and difficulties that followed and that is what to do with “ownerless” gas facilities and networks around the Russian Federation.

The Russian port and enclave of Kaliningrad is now self-sufficient in LNG after a delivery via the floating storage and regasification unit, the “Marshal Vasilevskiy”, to the small area separated from Russia and bordering Lithuania and Poland.
