The US Freeport LNG export plant on Quintana Island in Texas has announced scheduled shut-downs of its liquefaction Trains for repairs and maintenance and de-bottlenecking to  boost output in the future.

The surge in liquefied natural gas spot prices in the past year is shown in the latest Japanese government data, with contracted shipments valued at $9.30 per million British thermal units compared with $5.70 per MMBtu a year ago.

UK energy major BP has outlined its LNG plans on the US Gulf Coast and its success in developing its natural gas assets in the southern Haynesville Shale on the border of Texas and Louisiana.

Osaka Gas, one of the leading Japanese utilities and liquefied natural gas importers, has launched a pilot project in Thailand to make a form of LNG fuel from agricultural waste for use in vehicles.

Oct 19 (LNGJ) - Osaka Gas, a key Japanese LNG importer and city-gas company, said sales volumes for the first half of the current fiscal year amounted to 3.96 billion cubic metres of natural gas, the equivalent of 2.93 million tonnes of LNG, a rise of 6.1 percent compared with last year. The utility, which imports cargoes from countries such as Australia and Qatar, said a jump of 11.9 percent in sales to the industrial sector helped offset a fall in residential sales of 3.6 percent. Osaka Gas operates two world-class LNG receiving terminals, the Himeji facility with eight LNG tanks and storage capacity of 740,000 cubic metres and the Senboku terminal with 20 storage tanks and total capacity of 1.8 million cubic metres.
