May 19 (LNGJ) - Houston-based TechnipFMC has been awarded a significant contract by European LNG and pipeline natural supplier Equinor to provide riserless light well intervention (RLWI) services on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. “The two-year contract runs from 2024 to 2025, with options to extend for each of the three subsequent years,” said Equinor.

   TechnipFMC said it would provide production enhancement, production data, and pre-plug-and-abandonment services to Equinor using RLWI, which enables well interventions from a monohull vessel, eliminating the need for a riser and the rig required to connect the riser to the subsea well. Instead, remotely operated Well Control Systems are used to facilitate operations on the seabed.

Jan 18 (LNGJ) - Equinor, the Norwegian LNG and pipeline natural gas supplier for Europe, has made a commercial gas discovery in the Norwegian Sea with between 2 billion cubic metres and 11 Bcm of recoverable gas, or about 12.6-69.2 million barrels of oil equivalent.

   Exploration wells in the Norwegian Sea were drilled by the “Deepsea Stavanger” drilling rig about 23 kilometres (14 miles) south of the previous Irpa gas discovery. Equnor’s field partners are Norway’s state-run energy body Petoro and German oil and gas company Wintershall Dea. “We will together with our partners consider a tie-back of this discovery to Irpa, for which we recently submitted a plan for development and operation,” said Grete B. Haaland, Equinor’s Vice President for Exploration and Production North.

Production from the Njord oil and natural gas field in the Norwegian Sea has just resumed to supply Europe following a landmark upgrading project in which both the platform and the floating storage and offloading vessel (FSO) were brought ashore and overhauled before being towed back to sea and re-fitted to the fields.

Equinor confirmed that the Hammerfest LNG plant was resuming production in mid-May and would be part of the Norwegian company’s new planned natural gas production surge for Europe.

Norwegian energy company Equinor, whose Hammerfest LNG plant comes back on stream in mid-May 2022, said “unprecedented” European natural gas prices in the second half resulted in record high annual and fourth-quarter adjusted earnings after gas output was boosted.

Gassco, the Norwegian natural gas pipeline operator and one of the main competitors to LNG, hit a record for summer season deliveries to Europe and will soon be opening its new Polarled pipeline to carry even more volumes from the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
