European gas and LNG exporter Norway will keep open its last coal mine for energy-pressed Germany
European pipeline natural gas provider and LNG cargo exporter Norway has made a strategic decision to keep open the nation’s last coal mine located on the demilitarised archipelago of Svalbard in the Arctic despite opposition from the green lobby.
Bergen changes name
Nov 21 (LNGJ) - The Bergen Group, involved in the energy, industrial, maritime and defence sectors, has become the latest Norwegian company to change its name after oil and gas company Statoil became Equinor. Bergen is changing its name to Endur ASA when it completes its merger with Endur Holdings AS, scheduled for the middle of the first quarter of 2019. “The word ‘Endur’ is derived from the old Norwegian language expression ‘endurnyja’ which means ‘renewing’. Endur is also a word with various meanings, and in front of the word energy it means ‘lasting energy’. The owners of Endur Holding have within a short time succeeded in establishing the Endur name as the name of an important supplier in the oil and gas market,” said the company.
European class society DNV GL sees natural gas investment surge and doubling of LNG capacity
European classification society DNV GL said natural gas projects would receive more investment in the coming years and LNG capacity would double by the late 2040s as gas overtook oil as early as 2026 as the world’s primary energy source, accounting for a quarter of the world’s energy by mid-century.
