Markets bearish as more Russian LNG tankers head to China
Traded LNG markets are hedged between two risks – winter weather and further shipments from Russia’s sanctioned Arctic LNG 2. Six more vessels are headed to China with estimated arrivals between now and early October, Energy Aspect understands.

Russian natural gas company Novatek has plans to start commercial shipments from the Arctic LNG II project in mid-January 2024 and would likely send three to five cargoes per month eastwards to the Asian market, including China, while Russia’s Sakhalin LNG plant in the Far East has re-started after scheduled maintenance.
Russians complete first Northern Sea Route transit by LNG-powered Aframax oil tanker
Sovcomflot, the Russian shipping line with 16 LNG carriers and an overall fleet of 142 vessels, said one of its LNG-powered Aframax crude oil tankers successfully completed a commercial voyage along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) from Russia to Asia.
Russian LNG producer Novatek plans to form own shipping company as part of expansion
Novatek, the independent Russian natural gas company and majority owner of the Yamal LNG plant, said it aimed to create an LNG shipping subsidiary called Maritime Arctic Transport as part of its strategy to build a second Arctic liquefaction plant and to produce total volumes of more than 50 million tonnes per annum.
