Morocco has signed a liquefied natural gas supply agreement with Shell for a period pf 12 years that will initially see volumes shipped as cargoes to Spain and onwards as pipeline gas across the Mediterranean to Moroccan gas-fired power plants.
Sonatrach, the Algerian oil and gas producer and exporter of LNG and pipeline gas to Europe, has reported progress on two natural gas projects in the country’s southwest Sahara desert region.
UK-listed upstream natural gas company Sound Energy said it planned to set up a small LNG production project in the North African kingdom of Morocco from its assets there.
European classification society DNV GL said natural gas projects would receive more investment in the coming years and LNG capacity would double by the late 2040s as gas overtook oil as early as 2026 as the world’s primary energy source, accounting for a quarter of the world’s energy by mid-century.
