Tokyo Gas, the Japanese utility and LNG importer, has joined with one of Japan’s main trading houses, Marubeni Corp., to develop a liquefied natural gas and power project in the northeast Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh.

Gulf Energy Development Public Co. of Thailand said it signed a cooperation agreement to develop a gas-fired power project and liquefied natural gas import terminal in Ninh Thuan province of southeast Vietnam.

Vietnam has logged another natural gas discovery in the offshore Song Hong Basin in a prospect explored by Italian energy company Eni and Essar Oil of India as the Vietnamese also advance with two LNG import projects.

Novatek, the owner and developer of two Russian Arctic region LNG export plants, has signed an accord to help Vietnam develop a second LNG import terminal and adjacent gas-fired power station in Ninh Thuan province south of Cam Ranh Bay.
