Feb 25 (LNGJ) - TotalEnergies has chartered its first newbuilt LNG-powered Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), the “Eagle Valence”, under a long-term chartering agreement with ship-owner AET. “She is joining TotalEnergies time charter fleet and her sister ship currently under construction is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of this year,” said the French major.

Luc Gillet, Senior Vice President of Shipping at TotalEnergies, said the company was pleased to welcome the “Eagle Valence” to TotalEnergies’ time-chartered fleet. He noted that the vessel was the first of a broader programme of six newbuilt tankers designed with LNG dual-fuel propulsion. “We look forward to receiving five additional LNG-powered ships between 2022 and 2023. LNG as a marine fuel remains the best immediately available solution for reducing our shipping carbon footprint,” Gillet stated.

June 8 (LNGJ) - French energy major Total has joined the “Getting to Zero Coalition” for shipping launched at the last United Nations climate summit. It comprises over 120 organisations and has been endorsed by governments of 14 countries, including France and the UK. Total said it was already actively working on improving the environmental footprint of the shipping industry through the development of LNG bunkering. It has also recently announced the long-term chartering of two LNG-propelled Very Large Crude Carriers.

“As a major energy player, Total is already developing cleaner fuels for the maritime industry,” said Patrick Pouyanné, President and Chief Executive of Total. “We want to push innovation and foster collective actions with all the stakeholders,” he added.
