July 2 (LNGJ) - Shipping charter rates for LNG carriers in the spot market were firm in the past week in the West of Suez market at between $82,000 per day and $78,000 per day for vessels of 155,000-165,000 cubic metres capacity.
For vessels East of Suez spot charter levels declined by around $6,000 per day to between $60,000 per day and $56,000 per day, according to London brokers. One-year charter rates for the most modern vessels increased by $3,000 per day to around $85,000 per day.
Noble Energy of the US said it was still actively exploring a floating LNG export project using East Mediterranean resources from the Leviathan gas field offshore Israel while its LNG production venture in Equatorial Guinea in West Africa was progressing.
March 13 (LNGJ) - The American Bureau of Shipping, the US classification society, has granted Approval in Principle for the Seatransporter-DF, a dual-fuel design concept developed by Algoship Designers Ltd. of Nassau in the Bahamas. The design has the capability to accommodate multiple engine types as well as Type-C or membrane containment systems for LNG fuel. “Technically innovative designs that advance the use of LNG as fuel will play an increasingly important role in the marine sector, and ABS is working alongside industry to enable this critical technological advancement,” said ABS Executive Vice President for Global Marine Kirsi Tikka.
