Nov 8 (LNGJ) - Capital Gas Ship Management Corp., the LNG fleet owner headquartered in the Greek port of Piraeus, has taken delivery of its latest newbuild LNG carrier, the “Amore Mio I”. The ship with 174,000 cubic metres capacity was built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea.

Capital Gas said that the carrier is the eighth of the 18 most modern LNG vessels that will be delivered to the company through 2027. The “Amore Mio I” is powered by MAN-MEGA engines and equipped with the latest available technologies, including an air lubrication system, shaft generators and an increased filling limits above 99 percent. “The vessel represents the vanguard of the new generation of LNG carriers, setting an industry benchmark with its exceptionally low environmental impact,” the company said.

Gaztransport and Technigaz (GTT), the French LNG storage technology company for shipping and onshore, said it received its first order from a new partner, the Chinese shipyard China Merchants Heavy Industry in Jiangsu province, for the tank designs for four LNG carriers.

GTT will design the tanks of these four vessels, which will each offer a total cargo capacity of 180,000 cubic metres and would be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

The delivery of the vessels to an as yet unnamed European owner is scheduled between the first quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.

“We are glad to receive this first order from China Merchants Heavy Industry-Jiangsu for the design of the tanks of four new LNG carriers,” said Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and Chief Executive of GTT.

“With this fifth shipyard, China confirms its growing role in the construction of LNG carriers and opens up new opportunities in a context of strong demand,” stated Berterottière.

Nov 18 (LNGJ) - Shipyards in China and South Korea have seen orders in the past month for at least eight newbuild liquefied natural gas carriers and one floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) as the global fleet expands to meet rising demand. The orders include two vessels of 175,000 cubic metres capacity under an order made by German ship management company Hammonia Reederei and to be delivered between 2025 and 2026 from China's Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.

Two other newbuilds were ordered by US plant developer Venture Global from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for a price of $500 million, according to shipyard data. The two ships are due for delivery at the end of 2026. South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering has won $4 billion in orders so far in 2022, including eight LNG carriers, six containerships, one offshore platform and one depot maintenance order.

DSME added that the six containerships ordered this year have a specification for dual-fuel capability.

The latest DSME orders included three LNG carriers for the Americas after the company previously said there had been two LNG carrier orders worth 521 billion South Korean won ($428M).

The yard has now added one more vessel for the order list from the Americas, taking the total for the region to 863.5Bln Korean won ($710M).

“These LNG ships will be built at the Okpo Shipyard and delivered to the owner by the end of 2025,” said DSME.

GasLog Ltd, the Greek LNG shipping company, has also ordered LNG carrier from DSME in 2022.

GasLog is currently expanding its fleet and has ordered four newbuild 174,000 cubic metres capacity vessels for delivery in 2024 and 2025.

DSME, which is the world’s fourth largest shipbuilder, had an order backlog of $10.86Bln because of increased demand for valued-added vessels, such as LNG carriers and very large containerships with dual-fuel propulsion.

The latest three LNG carrier orders for the Americas will be of 174,000 cubic metres capacity.

The yard added that they would also be equipped with the latest generation M-type Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (ME-GI) propulsion system.

DSME said it was also fitting a more advanced re-liquefaction system.

“The yard’s other smart energy saving systems, such as the Shaft Generator Motor and their Lubrication System, are representative of eco-friendly new technologies that can improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon-dioxide and sulfur-oxide emissions,” added the DSME statement.
