Two Japanese shipbuilders, Imabari Shipbuilding and Japan Marine United, are forming an alliance to compete better against merging South Korean and Chinese shipyards, though will concentrate on LNG-powered vessels rather than high-value orders for LNG carriers.

Sovcomflot, the Russian shipping line with 16 LNG carriers and an overall fleet of 142 vessels, said one of its LNG-powered Aframax crude oil tankers successfully completed a commercial voyage along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) from Russia to Asia.
