The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has updated its estimate of projected European natural gas sales in 2022 to about 8 percent higher than last year and set to be bolstered by the restarting Hammerfest LNG export plant in Northern Norway and with the volumes helping to offset declining Russian gas sales.
Australian energy safety authorities will launch an investigation into the cause of a fire that has shut down Shell’s floating liquefied natural gas production vessel, “Prelude”, deployed offshore northwest Australia after an incident in which no one was reported hurt.
Equinor, the operator of the LNG export plant on Melkoya Island in Northern Norway, said that the facility would not be re-starting until early 2021 after a fire described as a very serious incident that had disturbed local residents in the nearby town of Hammerfest.
