Dec 29 (LNGJ) - The three main South Korean shipyards specializing in LNG newbuilds have confirmed receiving orders in 2020 for 46 LNG carriers, or 73 percent of the 63 orders placed worldwide. Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering, Samsung Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said they had achieved 91 percent, 65 percent and 75 percent respectively of their order targets during the year. Lloyd’s Register, the UK maritime classification society, has approved a design by a South Korean shipyard for a mid-scale LNG carriers of 30,000 cubic metres capacity with prismatic IMO Type-B storage tank design.
GasLog Ltd., the Monaco-based LNG carrier fleet owner with 19 vessels and with another 15 ships held by its US affiliate GasLog Partners, said it signed an export credit agency-backed debt financing facility of $1.05 billion with 12 international banks for its current newbuilding programme.
