Japanese spot LNG cargo prices were at an average of $8.30 per million British thermal units in January 2019 on a contracted basis, $0.90 per MMBtu lower than the previous month, though $2.70 per MMBtu down on January 2018 when the trading level was $11.00 per MMBtu.

Japanese spot LNG cargoes that arrived in Japan in February cost an average of $10.90 per MMBtu compared with $8.80 per MMBtu a year before, a rise of around 24 percent and along with long-term contract deliveries will be adding to Japan’s energy import costs as oil and gas prices recover.

Japanese liquefied natural gas imports edged lower in January to 8.26 million tonnes while the cost of the shipments was 11.5 percent higher than in the first month of 2017.

Japan said the average price of delivered spot liquefied natural gas cargoes in February 2017 jumped to their highest level in two years to reach $8.80 per million British thermal units, $1.90 per MMBtu higher than the $6.90 per MMBtu price logged in the same month a year ago.

Sept 14 (LNGJ) - Tokyo Gas, the third-largest Japanese LNG importer, said total sales volumes for the month of August came to about 1.21 billion cubic metres, the equivalent of 898,000 tonnes of LNG, a decline of 0.4 percent compared with the same month of 2015. In the industrial sector, volumes sold totalled 654 million cubic metres, a rise of 0.8 percent. In the business sector sales were down 1.6 percent to 254.5 million cubic metres. Wholesale volume sales to other city-gas companies dropped 7.6 percent to 169.5 million cubic metres. However, the company said residential sector volumes rose 5.9 percent to 138.3 million cubic metres “due to lower average temperatures, leading to the increased demand for water-heating.”
