China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, an affiliate of China State Shipbuilding Corp. (CSSC), has won a contract from Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) to build six LNG carriers.

Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, the Japanese maritime classification society, has issued its latest survey guidelines for facilities and equipment on liquefied natural gas bunkering vessels supplying fuel to LNG-powered ships at sea.

Two Japanese shipbuilders, Imabari Shipbuilding and Japan Marine United, are forming an alliance to compete better against merging South Korean and Chinese shipyards, though will concentrate on LNG-powered vessels rather than high-value orders for LNG carriers.
