JERA Co. Inc, Japan’s largest buyer of liquefied natural gas, has decided to resume operations in mid-April at the 47-year-old Sodegaura Thermal Power Station Unit 1, which uses regasified LNG and had been under a long-term planned shutdown process.

Japan Petroleum Exploration (Japex), which operates the main LNG import terminal in Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture, is taking its expertise to Vietnam to help develop an LNG receiving terminal in the Vietnamese port city of Haiphong.

Tokyo Gas, the Japanese utility and leading liquefied natural gas importer, said deregulation of the industry in Japan had been a big success and LNG had a great future as the nation was set to celebrate 50 years of using the fuel in 2019.
