Chinese liquefied natural gas imports rose by a third in March 2021 from the same month in 2020 when the world’s second-largest importer was cancelling cargoes because of the economic slowdown caused then by the impacts of Covid-19 in China.
Japanese spot LNG prices soared for contracted and delivered cargoes in January to as high as $18.50 per million British thermal units, back to the levels they were in 2014 that prompted the Japanese government to start publishing prices.
Australian oil and gas company Senex Energy said it was supplying more domestic natural gas to the East Coast market in Australia at least for the next two or three months as the Gladstone LNG export plant has reduced its coal-seam-gas needs from the onshore Surat Basin for LNG production.
