French liquefied natural gas storage technology firm Gaztranzport and Technigaz (GTT) said it received an order from the Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (SOE) group for the tank design for two LNG carriers and a Very Large Ethane Carrier.
Feb 21 (LNGJ) - Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (KSOE), the world’s largest shipbuilder by order backlog, said it won another LNG carrier order worth $217 million. KSOE has won 37 ship orders so far in 2022 valued at a combined $4.37 billion, accomplishing 25 percent of its annual goal of $17.4Bln of orders. KSOE’s three affiliates are Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.
Oct 25 (LNGJ) - Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (KSOE), the main holding company of Hyundai Heavy Industries and affiliates, has obtained a 383 billion South Korean won ($325 million) order to construct four LNG-powered petrochemical carriers.
The 4,000 deadweight-ton vessels to be built by HHI are scheduled to be delivered to a customer in the Middle East by the first half of 2024. KSOE said it had already surpassed its annual order target for all vessels of US$14.9 billion for the three shipyard companies in the group, HHI, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.
South Korean shipbuilders have managed to overtake Chinese shipyards in the May index of orders, led by more liquefied natural gas carrier newbuild placements, while more LNG tanker orders continued to be received in June.
Enagás, the Spanish gas grid and liquefied natural gas terminal network operator, and maritime fuels company Peninsula Petroleum Ltd, have signed a joint venture deal for the building and charter of an LNG bunkering vessel based at the Port of Algeciras to serve the Strait of Gibraltar shipping lanes.
The bunkering vessel with capacity of 12,500 cubic metres will be built at the South Korean Hyundai Mipo Dockyard shipyard and is expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2023.
The vessel will be chartered by Peninsula through an initial seven-year contract. It will load LNG fuel at Enagás regasification terminals, mainly the one at Huelva in southwest Spain.
The Enagás subsidiary called Scale Gas signed the agreement with Peninsula.
The LNG bunkering project will be co-financed by the European Union to the tune of €11 million ($13.3M) as part of the EU Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) transport aid programme.
The financing is available as part of the EU’s support of the development of LNG as a maritime fuel to help avoid sea pollution and to improve air quality in ports.
“The signing of this agreement is in line with Enagás’s commitment to promoting the development of a value chain that allows more efficient and sustainable maritime transport,” said Marcelino Oreja, Chief Executive of Enagás .
John A. Bassadone, the CEO and founder of Peninsula, said the project would serve a growing market and promote cleaner fuel.
“Peninsula and Enagás share the vision of developing the use of LNG as a transitional maritime fuel,” explained Bassadone.
“Having the support of a partner like Enagás is incredibly positive and exciting,” he stated.
Also party to the agreement is the Spanish Port Authority of Algeciras.
“We have been working intensely to promote alternatives to current fuels and developing the use of LNG as a proven technology that is currently available to serve ship owners already asking for LNG in the Port of Algeciras,” said Gerardo Landaluce, President of the Algeciras Port Authority
“Two years after the signing of this agreement, supported by Enagás and along with the co-financing of the European Union, the Bay of Algeciras will have a stable LNG bunkering supply service,” added Landaluce.
June 2 (LNGJ) - Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (KSOE), the world's leading shipbuilding group comprising Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, said orders have come in from five customers for 12 ships valued at $1.2 billion. The orders include four LNG carriers and a mid-scale liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier, which will be delivered by the first half of 2024.
At the end of May, global new orders for ships came to 17.95 million compensated gross tons (CGTs), representing 83 percent of the 21.50 million CGTs ordered last year, said KSOE, citing market data firm Clarksons.
Jan 21 (LNGJ) - Greek company Probunkers said it had agreed terms with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of South Korea for the construction of two LNG bunkering vessels, each with 7,600 cubic metres of capacity.
The accord in the form of a letter of intent came after a long process during which the Greek firm’s technical team reviewed more than 30 ship design proposals. Probunkers said the initial agreement with the Korean yard underlined its aim of bringing quality and reliability to customers.
Hyundai Heavy Industries Group said its shipbuilding units swung back to profit in the third quarter because of increased sales of high-value liquefied natural gas carriers to shipping companies around the world and as more shipyard berths are set to be booked for the next couple of years for LNG projects in nations such as Qatar and Mozambique.
Dec 6 (LNGJ) - The South Korean shipbuilder, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., said it received an order from Knutsen Shipping of Norway for a small-scale LNG carrier with capacity of 30,000 cubic metres and worth $77 million. “Hyundai Mipo will deliver the ship by the first quarter of 2021,” said the yard, a subsidiary of Hyundai Heavy Industries, the world's biggest shipbuilder by orders.
Gaztransport and Technigaz (GTT), the French maritime liquefied natural gas storage tank technology owner, said it received an order from South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries on behalf of European shipowner Celsius Tankers of Denmark to equip its first newbuild LNG carriers.
