Japan’s largest utility JERA has signed a long-term LNG sale and purchase agreement (SPA) with Hokkaido Gas, with deliveries starting in 2027. Under the seven-year contract, JERA will deliver two to cargoes per year - equivalent to roughly 130,000 to 200,000 metric tonnes of LNG. Deliveries will be scheduled flexibly to align with Hokkaido Gas’ seasonal demand patterns.

Jan 9 (LNG) - Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), MOL Ferry Co., Japan Petroleum Exploration (Japex) and Hokkaido Gas have signed two separate agreements between MOL and Japex and between MOL and the utility Hokkaido Gas for the supply of LNG fuel to two newbuild LNG-powered ferries in each port on the Oarai-Tomakomai route operated by MOL Group company MOL Ferry.

   “The LNG fuel supply is scheduled to start in 2025 when the ferries will enter service. Japex will supply LNG fuel to the ferries at the Port of Oarai in Ibaraki Prefecture and Hokkaido Gas will supply it at the Port of Tomakomai in Hokkaido through the truck-to- ship method,” they added.

Chevron Japan deal

April 7 (LNGJ) - Chevron Corp has signed a binding Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Japanese utility Hokkaido Gas for the delivery of LNG from Chevron’s global portfolio to the Hokkaido area. Under the deal, Chevron will supply Sapporo-based Hokkaido Gas with about 500,000 tonnes of LNG over a period of five years starting in April 2022. “We are delighted to design and execute an SPA with our new partner Hokkaido Gas that will bring Chevron LNG directly to Hokkaido, a key growth area,” said the US major. “It broadens our customer base in Japan, a market that is foundational to our LNG business,” added Chevron.
