Jan 26 (LNGJ) - Hokkaido Electric Power Co., the Japanese utility that receives cargoes from the US including Freeport LNG in Texas before the June closure, said nine-month power sales increased by more than 41 percent to 623.8 billion Japanese yen ($4.8Bln).

   However, the company said it posted a net loss in the fiscal year to December and planned to increase electricity prices by at least 32 percent from June. The utility, which imports LNG volumes at the Ishikari import terminal, swung to a nine-month loss of 21Bln yen ($161.1 million) as fuel prices for power generation rose.

Sept 23 (LNGJ) - Hokkaido Electric Power, the Japanese utility, said it received its first US LNG cargo delivered to the Ishikariwan Shinko Power Plant. The shipment originated at Freeport LNG in Texas and was based on a spot sales contract concluded between Hokkaido Electric and the largest Japanese LNG trader, JERA Global Markets.

   The shipment was delivered by the 177,000 cubic metres capacity LNG carrier “Shinshu Maru”, owned by Trans-Pacific Shipping, a joint venture comprising JERA and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line). 

A group of Japanese utilities and energy companies will be receiving more liquefied natural gas volumes for the Soma LNG terminal after the new Fukushima Natural Gas Power Plant started to generate electricity at full capacity from its two units in the prefecture where the nuclear plant exploded during an earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
