Global natural gas prices remained flat even as Australian labor unions prepared to have all-out strikes from September 14 at the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG export plants as mediation talks were still taking place in Perth in Western Australia.

The France-based International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL) said the LNG industry was making progress in adopting a comprehensive framework developed by GIIGNL on certifying the offsetting of carbon content in LNG with a trial cargo sent from Australia to Taiwan.

Chevron Corp., one of the leading global liquefied natural gas operators, will have continued lower output at the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG plants in early 2021 and explained plans for the Permian Basin in Texas in the light of the new US regime for curtailment of the oil and gas industry by means of executive orders.

Petronet LNG, the largest Indian gas importer, reported an almost 20 percent drop in quarterly net profits to near $50 million as it planned to sign an agreement soon to buy cargoes at close to Asian spot prices.

The Western Australian Gorgon LNG plant on Barrow Island is ramping up after a scheduled maintenance programme at a time when spot prices are at a low level, though steady oil prices are underpinning long-term contract values.
