Gaztransport and Technigaz (GTT), the French maritime LNG storage technology company, has received an order from its partner Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company of China for the design of new storage tanks for two Chinese liquefied natural gas carriers.

GTT said that the latest orders were on behalf of Ocean Jade Investment.

Ocean Jade is a joint venture between Hong Kong shipowner Wah Kwong, Chinese leasing company CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping and China Gas Holdings.

GTT will design the tanks of these two vessels, which will each offer a capacity of 175,000 cubic metres.

“The tanks will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system developed by GTT,” said the Paris-based company.

The delivery of the vessels is scheduled between the first and the second quarters of 2028.

At the start of July 2024 GTT received another order from the China Merchants Heavy Industry shipyard in the eastern province of Jiangsu for the tank design of a new LNG carrier as its orders stack up.

GTT said the order was for the tank design of a new LNG carrier on behalf of Danish ship-owner Celsius with delivery scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.

Qatar expansion orders

At the end of June 2024, GTT received a second wave of orders from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for sets of tanks for 10 more vessels as part of QatarEnergy’s “Hundred Ships Programme” to handle the deliveries from multiple expansion projects in the Arabian Gulf.

That GTT order for tanks fitted to 10 large LNG carriers brought to 18 the number of Qatari LNG vessels ordered from China with the new generation of storage tanks.

GTT said it would design the tanks for these 10 very large LNG carriers, which will each have five tanks with a total capacity of 271,000 cubic metres capacity.

The tanks will be fitted with the No. 96 Super-plus membrane containment system developed by GTT.

Delivery from GTT is scheduled between the first quarter of 2030 and the fourth quarter of 2031.

GTT earlier received orders in February 2024 for the designs of tanks for eight Qatari LNG carriers, also with five per ship and with total capacity of 271,000 cubic metres.

The eight-ship order was under a “strategic cooperation agreement” with China State Shipbuilding Corp., the leading Chinese shipbuilding group.

Delivery of this batch is scheduled between the second quarter of 2028 and the fourth quarter of 2029.

The ship designs will have the same overall dimensions as the current largest Q-Max ships but with an increased cargo-carrying capacity.

May 22 (LNGJ) - GTT, the French LNG storage technology company has under its investment fund, GTT Strategic Ventures, participated in a €4 million financing round to support the development of CryoCollect, a French engineering company specialized in gas-handling technologies for gas treatment, liquefaction and separation since being founded in 2017.

   “Investing in CryoCollect aligns with GTT’s commitment to innovation and pioneering smart technologies,” said Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and Chief Executive of GTT. “We are thrilled with this investment, poised to accelerate CryoCollect’s developments in sustainable gas production, thereby expanding the availability of bioLNG and bioCO2,” Berterottière added.

Gaztransport and Technigaz (GTT), the French LNG storage technology company, has increased its annual list of patent applications made to the Patent and Trademark Office in France, l’Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle.

The GTT group said it filed a total of 64 patents in 2023, an increase compared with 2022, thus maintaining its position as a technological leader in the category of intermediate-sized enterprises (ETIs) in France.

With 61 patents filed with the INPI, GTT said it secured the second position in the 2023 INPI ranking of patent-filing ETIs.

GTT also filed three more patents with the European Patent Office (EPO) in 2023.

Broadening technology

The group’s order book has designs for GTT storage and conventional carriers and containment tanks for LNG-powered vessels.

GTT’s earnings come from its technology licensing, hence the importance of the patents pipeline.

“Over the past decade, GTT's technological solutions have played a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from LNG carriers and optimizing the energy performance of its ship-owner clients,” explained the Paris-based company.

GTT’s core business has been centred around designs for tanks such as the Mark III membrane containment system.

However, GTT said it was now implementing an “ambitious innovation roadmap” in its adjacent markets and in its digital activities, as well as in the field of “zero-carbon” solutions at the subsidiary Elogen.

“With 61 patents filed with INPI and three patents filed with the European Patent Office, 2023 confirms the group's position of excellence in innovation and R&D and underlines GTT's technological stance,” said Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and Chief Executive of GTT.

“I would like to extend my congratulations to Soitec for claiming the top spot in 2023 with 62 patents filed in France, and I am pleased to witness the dynamic technological innovation among French mid-sized companies,” stated Berterottière.

He was referring to France's Soitec SA, a company that is involved in the microelectronics industry, designing and manufacturing innovative semiconductor materials.

It was also previously well known for licensing the patents for organisations such as French Atomic Energy Commission.

Dec 8 (LNGJ) - French LNG maritime storage tank designer GTT has signed a “strategic cooperation agreement” with China State Shipbuilding Corp. (CSSC), the leading Chinese shipbuilding group.

   The accord was signed at the Marintec China international trade fair in Shanghai. “The agreement provides for cooperation between GTT and 12 subsidiaries of the CSSC conglomerate, notably in ship design and construction, cryogenic containment technologies for LNG shipping, LNG as fuel and smart shipping1 solutions,” said GTT. Among the CSSC subsidiaries are Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, the Jiangnan Shipyard, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.

Gaztransport and Technigaz (GTT), the French LNG storage technology company, has signed a deal with another Chinese shipyard that will allow the use of designs for tanks in floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) as well as floating production vessels and conventional LNG carriers for the largest Chinese shipping group.

Ascenz Marorka, the smart-shipping arm of LNG maritime storage technology company GTT, has signed a contract with Global Ship Lease (GSL), a leading independent owner of container vessels to roll out its shipping systems across the GSL fleet.
