EQT Corp., the leading US natural gas producer in the Appalachian shale basins, is merging in a combination worth over $23 billion with Equitrans Midstream, the operator of natural gas gathering systems and the owner of the key Mountain Valley Pipeline.

The 41st edition of the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston attended by around 6,000 delegates focused on the second day on issues such as European and US natural gas and also on the main Texas commodity - crude oil.

EQT, a natural gas company few have heard of outside of America and which is the nation’s biggest gas producer and runs the “Unleash US LNG” advocacy campaign, reported strong fourth-quarter and annual earnings.
