Intercontinental Exchange Inc., the leading global provider of energy trading platforms, said that global futures and options markets reached record open interest of over 96 million contracts during May as market players in sectors such as oil, natural gas and LNG launched hedging operations amid volatile prices.
Global liquefied natural gas and spot and future wholesale pipeline gas prices lost some ground over the past week though the market remained volatile as shipping insecurity on Middle East routes was expected to last into 2025.

March 25 (LNGJ) - The UK is scheduled to receive a US LNG cargo on March 27 as prices remain solid at the end of the winter season at around the equivalent of $8.720 per million British thermal units on the National Balancing Point market. Spot natural gas prices on the European Energy Exchange also rose. The Dutch TTF day-ahead spot price was at the equivalent of $8.740 per MMBtu.
The cargo heading for the UK South Hook terminal in Milford Haven in Wales is onboard the vessel “Lech Kaczynski” with 174,000 cubic metres capacity. The shipment was loaded on March 13 at the Cameron export plant in Louisiana.
European and Asian liquefied natural gas cargo pricesincreased for a fourth straight week with the Northern Hemisphere winter gas season ending on a high storage note and as some European Union nations even built their storage this week as demand was mixed in the north and the south.
European prices for LNG tumbled in the past week and Asian cargo prices fell as the winter season wound down with mild weather and a global gas glut that also sent the US Henry Hub spot and futures prices crashing to under $1.60 per million British thermal units.
European liquefied natural gas prices dropped as supplies were ample for the remainder of the winter season while Asian spot cargo prices edged higher even as LNG deliveries to China hit seasonal lows ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday shutdown.
Jan 15 (LNGJ) – A steady stream of LNG carriers was heading for the Netherlands this week as the Dutch Title Transfer Facility (TTF) benchmark prices showed falling front-month futures being overtaken by the spot price on the European Energy Exchange. The front-month TTF for February was last at the equivalent of $10.130 million British thermal units while the TTF on the day-ahead spot market on January 15 was at $10.273 per MMBtu.
The vessels heading for the Dutch terminals, the Gate facility in Rotterdam and the Eemshaven terminal in Groningen, included the “Maran Gas Ithaca”, according to shipping data. That ship with 170,500 cubic metres capacity was scheduled to deliver a shipment from the Calcasieu Pass plant in Louisiana on January 17 and lifted on December 30, 2023. The “Kool Baltic” with 170,200 of capacity was due to discharge a cargo at Eemshaven on January 18 that was loaded in Trinidad in the Caribbean on January 3. Another vessel heading for the Rotterdam terminal was the “Global Star”, due to berth on January 20. The ship with 173,400 cubic metres capacity loaded its cargo on January 7 at the Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana. Two other ships heading for the Gate terminal with US cargoes are the “Lech Kaczynski” and the “LNG Rosenrot”.
