Caturus, a Houston-based independent gas company, has secured $9.75 billion in project finance-style debt for its Commonwealth LNG, with total equity and debt commitments reaching $21.25 billion.
Caturus has taken a final investment decision (FID) on its 9.5 mtpa Commonwealth LNG export project in Louisiana, supported by $9.75 billion in total financing and several long-term offtake agreements. Construction just begun, with first LNG targeted in late 2029 and full operations by 2030.
Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Energy has backed Kimmeridge’s $13 billion Commonwealth LNG project in Louisiana with equity financing, enabling the project to reach financial close.
Kimmeridge-owned Commonwealth LNG has entered a long-term deal to supply 1 mtpa to Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil exporter, sources told Reuters. This latest SPA brings Kimmeridge one step closer to achieving 8 mtpa of upfront-contracted LNG sales, out of the terminal’s total nameplate capacity of 9.5 mtpa.
Commonwealth LNG, majority-owned by Kimmeridge, has received a 20-year regulatory permit to export LNG to countries without free trade agreements (non‑FTA) with the United States, adding to a 25-year FTA export permit. Both authorizations will become effective once the LNG terminal starts commercial operations, or within seven years of issuance.
Honeywell has bagged an order from Technip, EPC contractor for the Commonwealth LNG export project, for delivery of modularized liquefaction and gas processing equipment. Delivery of the modules is scheduled by mid‑2028, well in advance of the terminal's planned start-up in 2029.
Saudi Aramco has signed 17 preliminary agreements, valued more than $30 billion, during the US-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington. Projects include a potential investment in Lake Charles LNG, along with several equity and offtake agreements with US LNG developers as Aramco wants to secure an additional 20 mtpa in supply.
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) final order for Commonwealth LNG is affirming the authorisation of its 9.5 mpta LNG export terminal to be built along Calcasieu Ship Channel near Cameron, Louisiana. With FERC’s final order in place the $11 billion project can now go ahead.
