Chinese liquefied natural gas imports increased by over 28 percent last month, though the recovery in cargo deliveries may not be enough to recapture the No. 1 global LNG importer position in 2023 that was ceded to Japan in 2022.
Chinese natural gas imports by pipeline and as liquefied natural gas increased by more than 11 percent in March, though were still lower for the first quarter compared with 2022.
Chinese natural gas imports, including LNG shipments and pipeline gas, jumped last month but the figure was so high mainly because in the year-ago period China was at the height of its Covid-19 economic slowdown and deliveries were cancelled.
