Argentina said it would take some time before the nation becomes a global player in the liquefied natural gas export market from shale-gas production because of available volumes and costs as well as finding customers.

Argentina plans to deploy a floating liquefied natural gas production hull at the port of Bahia Blanca in the second quarter of 2019 under an agreement with Belgian shipping company Exmar and the Argentine oil and gas producer Yacimientos Petroleiferos Fiscales (YPF).

Argentina is set to change from being an importer to an exporter of liquefied natural gas and has initiated a study on the first liquefaction and export venture with US floating project specialist Excelerate Energy.
