The American Bureau of Shipping, the US maritime classification society, has inaugurated an ABS Global LNG Academy in the Qatari capital Doha and dedicated to training and educating mariners in modern LNG vessel operations.

Italian energy company Eni and US major Chevron Corp. have made a “significant” gas discovery in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea offshore Egypt in a follow up for Eni on its huge Zohr gas field that enabled the Egyptians again to become LNG exporters.

NewMed Energy, the Israel company formally known as Delek Drilling, said it was considering a floating liquefied national gas plant to further develop the Leviathan gas field offshore Israel in the East Mediterranean amid other gas developments in the region.

Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco), the world’s largest seller of crude oil, reported that annual net income more than doubled to $110 billion and confirmed plans to boost natural gas output by 50 percent.

Air Products, the LNG equipment-maker now developing mega-projects in the Middle East, has signed a joint venture contract for a standard project in the Sultanate of Oman in the Arabian peninsula.

Delek Drilling, a partner in the Leviathan natural gas field, said the joint venture was finalizing a set of agreements allowing the supply of pipeline natural gas to Egypt via Jordan, using the Israeli transmission system to Jordan and the system connecting Jordan and Egypt in the area of Aqaba-Taba.

Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Co. (KIPIC) has unloaded its first liquefied natural gas shipment at the Arab state’s onshore Al-Zour import terminal, the largest in the Middle East, and constructed to provide fuel and power to the refining and petrochemicals industries.
