A review of the EU’s Arctic policy running through March 16, 2026, places fresh emphasis on gas from Norway’s Barents Sea which could lower Europe’s reliance on LNG imports. The resource base is substantial: The parts of the Barents Sea already open to exploration, according to Norwegian Offshore Directorate estimates, hold around 3.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) of natural gas, or about 22 trillion cubic feet.
Mozambique has been promised $6 billion in concessional financing, so-called soft loans from the World Bank for public investment projects – plus $4 billion of funding for the private sector, potentially supporting energy infrastructure projects like the Coral Norte FLNG.
Investors are seeking better incentives for integrated LNG and power projects in Vietnam as guaranteed electricity offtake levels are still too low to make projects break even. Developers said Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with 25-year tenures or a higher minimum offtake level, ideally 85-90%, would help secure predictable cash flows and attract international lenders.
US LNG exporters are selling cargoes abroad at prices roughly twice the Henry Hub benchmark, allowing export demand to set a higher clearing price in the domestic power market. Data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows the average LNG export sale price was $7.87 per thousand cubic feet (Mcf) in 2025 versus $3.66/Mcf for Henry Hub.
Uniper has agreed to supply up to 0.5 mtpa of LNG to India’s Gujarat State Petroleum Corp (GSPC) under a 10-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA), starting January 2028. Cargoes will be shipped to LNG terminals on India's west coast, including Dahej and Mundra.
INPEX Masala, the Indonesian subsidiary of Japan’s largest oil and gas producer, has received environmental approval for the Abadi LNG project, currently in the FEED stage. The project’s annual production will reach 9.5 million tons – equivalent of more than 10% of Japan’s annual LNG imports.
India’s leading gas importer Petronet LNG is open to purchasing more US LNG “at reasonable rates,” CEO AK Singh said during a press briefing in New Delhi. Favourable terms are essential for Petronet to sign new sales and purchase agreements (SPAs) with US LNG exporters, Singh underlined with reference to fierce price-competition from Qatar and Australian suppliers.
Argentina’s state oil company YPF, together with Italy’s Eni and the Abu Dhabi-based investment firm XRG, have signed a binding Joint Development Agreement to advance the 12 mtpa Argentina LNG project. CEO Horacio Marin said the three partners will now be “working very intensively to reach FID during the second half of 2026.”
Shell CEO Wael Sawan has expressed reluctance to spend the company’s own equity on US LNG projects, citing the availability of low-cost infrastructure funding. His remark signals a shift towards prioritising shareholder returns over equity commitment in an increasingly oversupplied global LNG market.
Bridging the cost gap between green and grey hydrogen will require public grants and operating subsidies – impacting LNG demand growth. Displacing half of current fossil-based hydrogen (H2) with low-emissions alternatives would reduce associated gas needs by up to 150 bcm per year, equivalent to 6% of global gas demand, the International Energy Agency (IEA) finds.
