LNG and energy hub at German port of Wilhelmshaven to be exempt from tariff and third-party access rules
Tree Energy Solutions (TES), the future energy hub developer at the German North Sea port of Wilhelmshaven, said regulators had exempted the planned onshore liquefied natural gas terminal within the “Green Energy Hub” from tariff and third-party access regulations for a period of 20 years from the start of operations.

German LNG charter
Dec 15 (LNGJ) - Höegh LNG Holdings said it signed a binding 10-year time charter contract with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The Norwegian shipping company added that its floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) “Höegh Esperanza” had been allocated to the contract.
The company said the vessel would be located at the North Sea port of Wilhelmshaven and be operated by German utility Uniper acting as agent on behalf of the charterer. “We are very pleased and honoured to be signing the time charter contract with the Federal Government of Germany and look forward to working in close collaboration with Uniper in Wilhelmshaven,” said Erik Nyheim, Höegh LNG’s President and Chief Executive.
Uniper disappointed
Nov 9 (LNGJ) - LNG Terminal Wilhelmshaven GmbH, the developer of a floating regasification facility on the German North Sea coast led by the utility company Uniper, said it was re-evaluating its plans. Uniper itself explained that this situation had been caused by the reluctance of market players to make binding bookings for import capacities in the current circumstances. Uniper CEO Andreas Schierenbeck said that LNG was a growth market and natural gas is playing a bigger part in ensuring security of supply and in decarbonizing the global energy system.
“This is why Uniper is committed to ensuring a secure supply of LNG both now and in the future. But it's also clear that all considerations must meet the same strict economic criteria,” added the Uniper CEO. “We will now discuss all this in depth with those who, like me, consider the development of such an import terminal in Germany to be a fascinating idea and will continue to support it,” stated Schierenbeck.
