Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea, the world’s largest shipbuilder by orders, said it received its biggest order for five years in signing a contract to build 10 very large ore carriers to an LNG-ready design for Korea’s Polaris Shipping line.
The General Dynamic NASSCO shipyard in San Diego, California, has begun sea trials for the latest LNG-ready petroleum products carrier built for US shipping line Seacor Ocean Transport Inc.
May 5 (LNGJ) - Crowley Maritime Corp., the US shipping line, was holding a naming ceremony on May 5 at the Port of New Orleans for its vessel “Louisiana”, the latest of four new Jones Act product tankers capable of being converted to liquefied natural gas propulsion. The 50,000 dead-weight-tons, 330,000-barrel-capacity ship is among the first tankers to receive the American Bureau of Shipping’s LNG-Ready approval. The ship will operate in the US Gulf Coast and is capable of carrying crude oil or refined petroleum products for its charterer, Marathon Petroleum Corp.
United Arab Shipping Co., Royal Dutch Shell and the world’s largest liquefied natural gas producer, Qatargas, have signed an agreement to jointly study projects related to the development of LNG as a marine fuel in the Middle East region.
