UK major BP posted solid results as its LNG portfolio increased to 23 million tonnes per annum and fourth-quarter results reflected stronger natural gas marketing and trading activities as well as higher oil prices.
Italian oil and gas major Eni and a key shareholder in global liquefied natural gas production projects has made a “significant’ natural gas discovery in East Kalimantan in Indonesia with the volumes likely headed for the onshore Bontang liquefaction and export plant.
Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina is preparing to acquire Shell’s stake in the Masela natural gas block that will underpin the Abadi LNG export project in Indonesia and boost future cargo availability in the Pacific Basin, while Shell is also selling all its assets in Pakistan in a pull-out from Asia's more difficult areas to do business.
Indonesia has approved the extension of the Tangguh production sharing contract for 20 years to underpin the Tangguh LNG export project involving state companies, UK major BP, Japan’s Inpex and a Chinese stake, including in the Train 3 expansion currently under construction.
The Chief Executive of BP said the UK major would continue producing hydrocarbons in the form of oil and natural gas for pipelines and LNG for many decades to come and would benefit from rising oil prices, reducing investor concerns over the past two years that BP was pandering to environmental extremists who had attacked its London headquarters.
