Argentine oil and gas incumbent YPF is about to take FID on developing the Vaca Muerta basin, supported by new legislation. “The new law allows LNG to be exported from gas produced in Vaca Muerte without having to pay tax,” CEO Horacio Marín said at Gastech today.

The Korean Register, the classification society of the Republic of Korea, has awarded an Approval in Principle (AIP) for an LNG dual-fuel Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) jointly developed by KR and South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The award was made at the five-day Gastech energy conference and exhibition in the Asian city state of Singapore.

“Currently, the global maritime industry is grappling with the development of various counter-measures to meet strengthening greenhouse-gas regulations and there is more market interest in eco-friendly ships fueled with LNG in particular,” said KR.

The newly approved LNG dual-fuel VLGC, which has been developed in response to market needs, utilizes both marine gas oil (MGO) and LNG as fuel and incorporates two LNG fuel tanks positioned on both sides of the open deck.

HHI executed the ship’s basic design, established the layout of fuel supply pipes and the gas detection system and designed the LNG fuel tank using their technical expertise.

KR verified the safety, suitability and the regulatory compliance of the design by reviewing national and international regulations, leading to the issuance of the AIP for the LNG dual-fuel VLGC.

“KR has been focusing on the development of eco-friendly technologies relevant to LNG for several years because LNG is considered a major alternative that can meet the international regulations,” said Kim Yeontae, Executive Vice President of KR’s Technical Division.

“We will further enhance our customer support to respond to decarbonization, based on our experience and technologies acquired from joint development projects with shipyards,” Kim added.

Jeon Seungho, HHI’s Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, said he was delighted with the award.

“HHI has been working to develop eco-friendly fuel propulsion ships such as LNG using our accumulated design technologies, and we are pleased to demonstrate our technical expertise with this AIP,” Jeon explained.

The advanced facilities give the Korean company a 10 percent share of the global market. The main HHI yard stretches over 4 kilometres along the coast and has 10 large-scale drydocks with nine huge “Goliath Cranes”.

Sept 7 (LNG) - A hand-over ceremony has been held at the natural gas and LNG conference and exhibition, Gastech 2022 in Milan, to celebrate the award to Singapore of the Gastech 2023 event, which is scheduled to take place in the Asian city state from September 11 to September 14, 2023.

   Senior representatives of the two host cities of Milan and Singapore Luca Palermo, Chief Executive of the Fiera Milano Group, Lee Pak Sing, Assistant CEO of Enterprise Singapore, and Poh Chi Chuan, Executive Director of Exhibitions and Conferences for the Singapore Tourism Board, spoke at the Milan event.

Leading oil and gas and LNG executives as well as heads of European Union utilities had interesting observations to make on the first day of the four-day Gastech Conference and Exhibition held in the northern Italian city of Milan.

The 50th anniversary Gastech Exhibition and Conference on LNG, pipeline natural and emerging energies is beginning on September 5 in the Italian city of Milan with global energy leaders and executives set to discuss the growing global gas crisis.

US industrial gases equipment-maker and technology provider Chart Industries, whose products last year alone helped produce over 45 million tonnes of LNG to replace coal-fired power outside the US, was named “Emissions Reductions Champion Organization of the Year” at the three-day Gastech 2021 in-person trade show and exhibition that opened in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The United Arab Emirates said it was looking forward to hosting the Gastech natural gas and LNG conference and exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre in September and is lining up an impressive list of government ministers from around the world for the first major energy event to take place in-person this year.

The UAE said that Gastech had built a world-class speaker list for the first in-person commercial conference event since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event was switched to Dubai in June 2021 from Singapore over continued concerns about persistent Covid-19 infections in Asia.

The Gastech conference is taking place in Dubai from September 21 to September 23 and is also the world’s largest gas and LNG exhibition supporting the industry.

The Official Ministerial Welcome Address will be delivered by Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Managing Director and Group Chief Executive of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.

A Ministerial Panel will then address the conference. It includes Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy of the UAE; Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia; and Mohammed Barkindo Sanusi, Secretary General at OPEC.

“The ministers will be part of an impressive line-up of speakers at Gastech this year and they will be speaking on ‘Achieving Net Zero: Driving the Global Energy Transition’ as a topic,” said a UAE statement.

The opening session will be moderated by John Defterios, former Emerging Markets Editor at CNN and Adjunct Professor at NYU Abu Dhabi.

“In this esteemed panel, ministers from the world’s leading energy economies will share insights on the role of natural gas in the energy transition, future directions on how to create a hydrogen economy and what roadmaps are needed to meet the growing demand for energy and cleaner fuels,” said the UAE statement.

“Finally, the panel will look ahead to COP26, what to expect from this year’s climate meeting and how it will impact energy market dynamics,” it added.

The Gastech 2021 organisers have said they expected more than 25,000 attendees at the Dubai event, including at the conference where hundreds of senior executives and politicians are expected as well as over 400 exhibiting companies.

Other Energy Ministers speaking this year in Dubai include Chief Timipre Sylva, Minister of State and Petroleum Resources of Nigeria; João Galamba, State Secretary for Energy, Portugal; German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy, Ukraine; Hala Adel Zawati, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jordan; and Udaya Gammanpila, the Minister of Energy of Sri Lanka.

The Gastech conference, the largest for the natural gas and LNG industry and set to take place on an in-person basis in 2021, has been switched to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from Singapore over continued concerns about persistent Covid-19 infections in Asia.

One of the main sessions of the Gastech Virtual Summit as it wound down after five days was a discussion of Asian LNG demand where Japan will develop new small-scale facilities, China is on a steady upward path for cargo imports and Singapore is determined to lead the field in LNG bunkering.

The first Gastech Virtual Summit gets underway on Monday, September 7, under the title “Connecting the Gas, LNG and Energy Industry” and will run through September 11 as a replacement event for the postponed Conference & Exhibition scheduled for Singapore.
