Australian developer Viva Energy has received federal environmental approval for its proposed floating LNG import terminal at Geelong, deemed vital to offset declining domestic gas production in Victoria.

Construction of an onshore LNG import terminal at Brunsbüttel is more expensive than expected, forcing Germany to support it with another €200 million in federal funding – on top of the €740 million initially committed. Broadcaster NDR reports total costs now surpass €1,5 billion, instead of €1.3 billion, with private investors having to shoulder most of the overrun.  

The US government is organizing a first meeting to help draw up future regulatory changes for the transportation of liquefied natural gas on the nation’s highways, railroads and waterways and to imporve safety for production and other infrastructure.
