Italian energy engineering company Saipem has been awarded a $1.7-billion contract by Qatargas for the development of the North Field Production Project offshore of the Northeast coast of the Qatar peninsula to underpin LNG expansion.

Qatar Petroleum President and Chief Executive Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said he was looking ahead to a no-nonsense future for the combined companies of Qatargas and RasGas after the one-year completion of a corporate union.
