LNG shipments to Japan jumped 14.5 percent from the same month a year ago to just over 6 million tonnes, the Japanese Ministry of Finance said in its monthly trade statistics.

Japan spends about $20Bln a year on LNG imports, mostly under long-term contracts.

Japan’s LNG imports for last month were valued at 271 billion yen ($2.19Bln). This would imply an average price per tonne of $365 compared with an implied price per tonne for April of $353 per tonne.

Japan said last month it imported 4.73 million tonnes of LNG in April valued at 206.3 billion yen ($1.7Bln)
