China imports less LNG as Russia supplies more pipeline gas

Wednesday, 14 September 2022

Chinese LNG imports in July 2022 to its network of 22 regasification terminals declined significantly on a year-on-year basis amid an economic slowdown while shipments from Russia’s state-owned Gazprom have edged higher since the Ukraine invasion. The nation’s LNG deliveries fell 16.3 percent to 4.74 million tonnes (MT), or 70 cargoes, compared 5.67MT, or 83 cargoes in July 2021 – as buyers turn to comparatively cheaper priced pipeline gas.
